Overview
Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Nursing, the Administrative Supervisor Nursing Care is responsible for assigned units to monitor, supervise, and evaluate the quality of care delivered for compliance with standards of practice and policies and procedures. In addition, the Administrative Nursing Care Coordinator has responsibilities for the overall management of the Nursing Department on the evening and night shifts.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for residents on his/her rounds.
- Makes rounds to observe resident needs and the quality of resident care delivered by staff members.
- Ensures compliance in all areas of clinical documentation through frequent reviews of charts, care plans, NAAARS, flow sheets, etc.
- Relates to residents and their families for supportive and health teaching purposes.
- Implements current approaches to the delivery of nursing care services on the unit(s).
- Assists with the initiation and accurate completion of MDS+ (Minimum Data Set Plus).
- Monitors and evaluates clinical programs/projects which enhance the quality of life for residents (i.e., restraint reduction, incontinence program, etc.)
- Conducts staff conferences and meetings at least monthly. Submits minutes of meetings to Associate Director/Director.
- Provides leadership and acts as a resource person for staff.
- Acts as a change agent by influencing attitudes and promoting good working relationships among staff.
- Participates in establishing the staffing pattern according to resident care needs.
- Participates in orientation of new staff, evaluates performance and makes recommendations when necessary.
- Support his/her established goals, objectives, and standards for the unit and communicates them to the staff.
- Promotes regulatory compliance.
- Interprets policies and procedures to staff.
- Monitors lateness and absenteeism of his/her staff.
- Participates in the progressive disciplinary process.
- Maintains a safe and clean environment for resident and employees. Observes and reports environmental hazards.
- Identifies learning needs of staff and in collaboration with nursing education, develops programs and assists staff to develop his/her skills.
- Participates in continuous Performance Improvement activities. Writes and reports findings and makes recommendations to the Director of
- Prepares monthly and annual reports and submits them to the Director/Associate Director of Nursing.
- Demonstrates knowledge in labor management issues.
- Performs other related duties assigned by the Director/Associate Director of Nursing. In an emergency, performs other duties necessary for the welfare of the residents or the efficient operation of the facility.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor of Nursing Degree or matriculated in a program leading towards a Bachelor of Nursing Degree.
- Master’s in nursing.
Experience:
- Demonstrated clinical expertise and leadership abilities.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to fully utilize electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
- Working knowledge or RUGS, PRI, and MDS.
- Has the genuine interest in geriatrics and restorative nursing.
- Documented competence in caring for persons with AIDS.
- License/Registration/Certification or permit required: New York State License
- Licenses, Certifications:
- Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in New York
- BCLS Certification
- IV Certification.
- Completion of an Orientation Program in caring for persons with AIDS.
Physical Requirements:
- Consistent with requirements for working in a patient care setting, radiation emitting machinery setting, nuclear isotopes setting, and an office setting.
- Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
- Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
