Responsibilities:

  • Assess the immediate and continuing care needs of patients and their significant others.
  • Develop comprehensive and current care plans, including physical needs, patient teaching, discharge planning, and psychosocial/spiritual needs.
  • Provide direct patient care based on assessed needs and the medical regimen; supervise the care provided by other nursing personnel.
  • Observe, evaluate, document, and communicate the patient's response to illness and therapeutic modalities to relevant team members.
  • Ensure timely reassessment of patient responses to treatment and significant changes in condition or diagnosis.
  • Coordinate the overall plan of care to ensure implementation of nursing interventions and consistency with the medical regimen.
  • Establish priorities for care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and initiate follow-up as needed.
  • Assure the care plan integrates age-specific needs as defined in the unit scope of care.
  • Accept responsibility and accountability for nursing interventions and outcomes.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) activities related to patient care delivery and the development of nursing/hospital standards.
  • Communicate effectively, manage stressful situations appropriately, and facilitate interpersonal relationships with other disciplines.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • BSN prepared with 2 - 3 years’ experience in a Level I or II Trauma Center.
  • Certifications: TNCC, BLS, ACLS, PALS, AHA Stroke certification.
  • Competency in vent/tracheostomy and gastrostomy tubes, medication titration.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment, and other healthcare and billing systems.
  • Preferred: Board Certification.
