EKG Technician | Contract Role | New York
What we need: Under the supervision of the RN, continuously reviews the screens on the central monitoring station for changes/abnormalities in electrical wave tracings, records tracings and alerts RN to the noted changes, and places tracings on the patient’s medical records.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Admit and discharge patients to and from central monitor.
- Watch central monitors to document and immediately report cardiac arrhythmias to unit via special telephone hot line connected to each unit where central monitoring is available.
- Become familiar with each patient’s cardiac rhythm by running a rhythm strip of each patient at the beginning of each tour and when changes in rhythm occur.
- Distribute and monitor the flow of telemetry transmitters and document the number of transmitters in use and available on hand.
- Apply telemetry transmitters when necessary and assist staff as needed.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions of telemetry and computers and report same to the nurse-in-charge/repair service if necessary.
- Par-stock monitoring supplies.
- Maintains BLS certification and assist in emergencies when requested.
- While at the monitor, take message; reports; answer patient intercoms; and follow through unit’s “Dr. Pacemaker” protocol.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from a Senior High School or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma and 2 years+ experience as an Electrocardiograph Technician (EKG Technician)
- Current BLS certification.
- Ability to establish interpersonal relationship with patients and co-workers.
- Effective communication skills, oral, and written.
