This position is for a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) who will provide comprehensive medical and surgical care to adult patients aged 18 and over. Working within the framework of the nursing process, you will be responsible for all aspects of patient care as defined by The New York State Nursing Practice Act, to help each patient achieve their optimal health potential.
Responsibilities
Assessment: You will conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical, social, behavioral, and mental status through interviews, direct observation, and medical record review.
Planning: Based on your assessment findings and the patient's medical/surgical diagnosis, you will develop a personalized care plan that addresses their physical and psychological needs, as well as their educational level. You will also identify the need for referrals to other healthcare professionals.
Intervention/Implementation: You will provide skilled nursing care, including:
- Identifying symptoms
- Managing disease processes
- Implementing treatment modalities
- Administering medications
- Intervening in medical/surgical emergencies using non-violent crisis intervention techniques
- Implementing and promoting infection control practices
- Providing for patients' psychosocial and educational needs
- Delivering health education and medication instructions
- Ensuring all procedures are performed according to established standards
- Demonstrating competency in all assigned procedures within your scope of practice
- Investigating and reporting unusual occurrences or patient care incidents
- Advocating for your patients
Evaluation: You will continually monitor patient progress and revise the care plan as needed, collaborating with other healthcare team members.
Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
Experience: Minimum three (3) years of medical-surgical nursing experience preferred
Knowledge and Skills
Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing
Licenses and Certifications:
Current NY State RN License
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required
