Job Duties:
- Participates in determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to the delivery of nursing care services by:
- Knowing and adhering to objectives, policies of the facility and Nursing Department related to resident care
- Establishing and maintaining good interpersonal relationships with residents, families/significant others, and visitors in accordance with the patient Bill of Rights
- Maintaining effective and proper use of equipment and supplies, including safekeeping of resident’s belongings
- Maintaining the safe keeping of drugs and their records according to the law
- Participates in maintaining standards of nursing practice by: knowing and applying scientific principles in performing nursing procedures and applying knowledge of drugs, diagnostic tests, and other therapeutic modalities based on established principles and precautions
- Conducts residents care rounds to identify residents’ needs and problems; receives reports from staff nurses of the previous shift; distributes and discusses assignments with staff members
- Initiates assessment of resident’s needs (physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative) and develops a comprehensive plan of care to meet these needs, utilizing the nursing process
- Completes assigned sections of the Minimum Date Set Plus; applies appropriate RAPS, DS+; applies appropriate RAPS, to the facility, on a quarterly basis, change of condition and during annual reviews as per State guidelines. Coordinates and participates in the Comprehensive Care Planning process
- Implements the comprehensive care plan in the conjunction with residents/families and members of the interdisciplinary team
- Assesses the nutritional needs of the residents; actively participates at mealtime by assessing staff, observing and feeding residents
- Revises nursing assignments as needed; observes and supervise staff members to ensure that care is given in accordance with facility policies/procedures
- Ensures that unit programs of restorative nursing care are adequate to meet resident needs
- Provides direct nursing care based on the needs of the residents. Administers medication and treatments according to physician’s order
Skills:
- Delivers appropriate nursing intervention in response to physical and behavioral/emotional condition
- Communicates plan of care to others providing care to residents
- Assist with investigation of complaints and occurrences related to resident care
- Responsible for carrying out Fire and Safety regulations to maintain a safe environment
- Evaluates, documents, and communicates to other members of the health team residents’ family, response to nursing intervention and treatments including teaching and discharge plans
- Assists with orientation, skill training, and evaluation of new nursing personnel
- Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary committees, which influence or determine policies affecting nursing practice
- Interprets philosophy and objectives of the facility and the Nursing Department to residents’ families, personnel, and the community
- Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experience
- Participates in continuous performance improvement activities and demonstrates initiative in identifying and communicating performance problems and issues
- Demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability for decisions made and actions taken within the scope of nursing practice in accordance with the facility policy and procedure
- Performs other related duties assigned by the Nurse Manager. In an emergency, performs other duties necessary for the welfare of residents or the efficient operations of the facility
- Demonstrates knowledge, awareness, and responsiveness to the age specific requirements of the population(s) served
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program
- Completion of an orientation on caring for residents with AIDS
- Knowledge of MDS+
Minimum Expereince:
- Recent staff nurse experience, preferable in AIDS care
Licensed to practice in New York State as:
- Registered Professional Nurse
- CPR Certification
- PRI Assessor
Shifts Details: 5 positions- Days- 7am-3pm 5 positions- Evening Shift 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm Possible 37.5 hours per week EVERY OTHER WEEKEND
Contract: 6 month contract
