Position Summary:

  • The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care. 
  • The Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of healthcare services to patients. 
  • The Registered Nurse assesses the patient’s needs, plans care, implements and evaluates the medical and nursing regimens in accordance with the hospital and nursing philosophy, policies/procedures and standards. 
  • He or she demonstrates leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth

 Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:

  • Seeking a skilled and compassionate nurse who understands and adheres to WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors. 
  • Utilizing the nursing process, the nurse will address the age-specific needs of patients, encompassing biophysical, psychosocial, education, safety/environment, and discharge planning. Decisions related to patient care and unit-based issues will be made using appropriate steps, with a focus on patient rights and nursing ethics. 
  • The nurse will collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, ensuring infection control standards are followed for patient and staff safety. 
  • Delegation of tasks to ancillary staff will be in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act. 
  • Active involvement in performance improvement initiatives, completion of competencies, and participation in mandatory in-services and staff meetings are expected. 
  • The nurse will support and promote the WPH Professional Nursing Practice Model and advance the Magnet model. 
  • Additionally, the role includes cost containment practices, charge nurse responsibilities, and fulfilling other assigned duties.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • We are seeking a highly qualified RN with a current New York license/registration from an accredited nursing school. BSN is required for RNs and Proof of BSN (or MSN) must be submitted to Human Resources 
  • Applicants should possess knowledge of current nursing, medical, and health trends for patient care. One year of acute care nursing experience is preferred for areas other than medical surgical or step-down.
  • BLS certification (through American Heart Association) is mandatory, and ACLS certification is required for all RNs except for NICU and OR RNs. Existing nurses have 12 months to obtain ACLS . 
  • Newly hired, inexperienced nurses must acquire ACLS within 12 months, and newly hired, experienced nurses within 6 months.
  • PALS certification (through American Heart Association) is obligatory for RNs in specific units and must be obtained within 12 months for newly hired inexperienced nurses and within 6 months for newly hired experienced nurses.
  • NRP certification is essential for RNs working in the Mother-Baby unit, Labor & Delivery, and NICU, to be obtained within 6 months for newly hired nurses.
  • Direct oncology care providers must have a current cancer-specific certification or fulfill ongoing education requirements.
  • RN's in the Emergency Department must complete de-escalation training within 1 year of hire.
  • Successful completion of the Department and Unit Orientation Program is required.Core
