Job Summary

The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, patient-centered care utilizing the nursing process. This role is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating care for obstetric patients, ensuring safe delivery outcomes for both mother and newborn in accordance with hospital policies and clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to laboring, delivering, and postpartum patients
  • Assess patient and fetal status; develop and update individualized care plans
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document patient progress and response to interventions
  • Administer and titrate medications, including labor-inducing agents
  • Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and multidisciplinary teams for optimal outcomes
  • Educate patients and families on labor, delivery, newborn care, and discharge planning
  • Respond promptly to obstetric emergencies and changes in patient condition
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to LPNs and support staff
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and staff
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with staff orientation and serve as a clinical resource
  • Take on charge nurse responsibilities as assigned
  • Support team coverage and collaborate across units as needed
  • Participate in meetings, training, and continuing education programs
  • Maintain professional growth and required competencies

Requirements

Education:

BSN required

Experience:

  1. Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  2. Experience in medication titration required
  3. PICU/NICU experience preferred

Certifications:

BLS (required)

ACLS (required)

NRP (required)

Board Certification (preferred)
