Job Summary:
The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for delivering, coordinating, and evaluating nursing care in accordance with the New York State Nursing Practice Act. The RN works collaboratively with physicians, care providers, and the interdisciplinary team to address patient and family needs. Care is provided across the lifespan, from newborns to adults.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality nursing care in alignment with professional standards and organizational policies.
- Coordinate patient care needs through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring safe and compassionate care.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, social workers, case managers, and other healthcare team members.
- Follow all infection control protocols and maintain safe clinical practices.
- Address and document psychosocial, educational, and environmental needs of patients.
- Ensure timely reporting of unusual occurrences or patient care incidents.
- Demonstrate competency in all procedures within the RN scope of practice.
Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive physical, behavioral, social, and mental health assessments.
- Review medical history, records, and data from interdisciplinary team members.
- Identify mobility issues, sensory deficits, and skin integrity concerns; adjust care plans accordingly.
- Recognize medical conditions related to psychological or medication-related factors.
- Document all assessments accurately and communicate findings to the care team.
Planning:
- Develop individualized plans of care based on medical/surgical diagnoses and presenting symptoms.
- Assess patient education needs and provide appropriate teaching.
- Initiate referrals to other disciplines as necessary and document accordingly.
- Intervention/Implementation:
- Utilize strong critical-thinking skills to manage patient conditions and respond to medical/surgical emergencies.
- Administer medications and implement treatment modalities safely.
- Provide psychosocial support and health teaching to patients and families.
- Ensure all procedures follow established standards of care.
Evaluation:
- Continuously evaluate patient responses and revise care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Physical Demands:
- Requires standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, bending, and occasional repetitive motion.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of emergency nursing experience.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking abilities.
- Experience managing acute and critical patient conditions.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written English).
Education:
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nursing.
Certifications & Licensure:
Required: Active New York State RN License, ACLS, BLS, and PALS.
