About the Role:
As a Mental Health RN at a DirectShifts facility in NYC, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive care to adults and adolescents facing a variety of mental health conditions. You will work collaboratively with psychiatrists, therapists, other nurses, and healthcare professionals to develop individualized treatment plans and promote patient recovery.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct mental health assessments, monitor patients' emotional and behavioral state.
- Administer medications, provide patient education on mental health conditions and coping mechanisms.
- Develop therapeutic relationships with patients, offering support and promoting self-care strategies.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Advocate for patients' needs and ensure access to appropriate resources.
- De-escalate crisis situations and provide support during moments of emotional distress.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients in mental health units or outpatient clinics.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and mental health care protocols.
Qualifications:
- Active and unrestricted New York State RN License.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a mental health care setting (preferred, but general RN experience with a passion for mental health can be considered).
- Strong understanding of mental health conditions, psychiatric medications, and therapeutic interventions.
- BLS certification (Basic Life Support) is mandatory. Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and mental health first aid is a plus.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach with a focus on building trust and rapport with patients.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and manage challenging situations with empathy and resilience.
