About the Role:
As a Nephrology RN at a DirectShifts facility in Illinois, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive care to patients with a variety of kidney diseases and conditions. You will work collaboratively with nephrologists, other nurses, and healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes throughout their treatment journey.
Responsibilities:
- Assess patients' kidney health, monitor vital signs, and interpret test results.
- Administer medications, provide patient education on disease management and self-care techniques (e.g., dialysis options, fluid restriction).
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop individualized care plans and track patient progress.
- Assist with dialysis procedures (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis) and ensure patient comfort during treatment.
- Educate patients and families about kidney disease, treatment options, and potential complications.
- Provide emotional support and address patient concerns related to chronic kidney disease.
- Maintain a sterile and safe environment for patients undergoing nephrology procedures.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and nephrology care protocols.
Qualifications:
- Active and unrestricted Illinois State RN License.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a patient care setting (nephrology or related field preferred).
- Strong understanding of the urinary system, kidney function, and common kidney diseases (e.g., chronic kidney disease, kidney failure).
- BLS certification (Basic Life Support) is mandatory. ACLS certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) (a plus).
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and teaching skills.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach with a focus on empowering patients.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and prioritize tasks efficiently.
