About the Role:
As an Oncology RN at a DirectShifts facility in NYC, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive and compassionate care to patients diagnosed with various types of cancer. You will work collaboratively with oncologists, surgeons, other nurses, and healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes across all stages of treatment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and track treatment progress.
- Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other medications according to treatment plans.
- Educate patients and their families about cancer diagnoses, treatment options, and potential side effects.
- Provide emotional support, manage pain and symptoms effectively, and advocate for patient needs.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Assist with procedures such as bone marrow biopsies and central line placements (depending on the facility).
- Maintain a safe and sterile environment for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and evidence-based practices for oncology care.
Qualifications:
- Active and unrestricted New York State RN License.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a medical/surgical setting (oncology experience preferred).
- Strong understanding of oncological principles, various cancer types, and treatment modalities (chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery).
- BLS certification (Basic Life Support) is mandatory. Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification is a plus.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach with a focus on supporting patients and families during a challenging time.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and manage challenging situations with empathy and resilience.
