Brookdale, now one of the largest nonprofit teaching hospitals in Brooklyn, is part of a vibrant neighborhood community. The hospital covers a 10-acre campus plus six Brookdale Family Care Centers, with buildings devoted to inpatient, ambulatory, long-term care, senior living and emergency medicine. Job Description:
1. Orders procedures in Laboratory computer system
2. Assures proper specimen labeling and storage.
3. Assists neuropathologist with brain description and dissection.
4. Assists pathologist in dissection and handling of large gross pathology specimens
5. Performs, under a pathologist’s supervision, the following duties related to surgical specimens:
6. Verify with the histology technologist all cassettes are present before transport from the Grossing room.
7. Maintains and cleans biological cabinets where surgical specimens are dissected.
8. Assists the Pathologists in preparation for teaching conferences by gathering and collecting slides, reports, photographs, clinical information etc.
9. Maintains file of gross photographs
10. Maintains microslide and kodakchrome teaching collections
11. Maintains departmental library
12. Arranges for maintenance and repair of equipment
13. Photographs gross specimens
14. Performs such other duties as may be specified by the Director of Pathology
15. In an emergency performs other duties necessary for the welfare of patients and the efficient operation of the hospital
Qualifications:
College graduate with formal training as a pathology assistant or 2 years of experience working in a Department of Pathology
