Key Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of treatment plans for individuals with psychiatric disorders.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions, including administering medication (if applicable) and offering crisis management.
  • Monitor patients’ behavior and physical condition, reporting any changes to the supervising healthcare provider.
  • Assist in group therapy sessions, behavioral assessments, and activities aimed at promoting mental health recovery.

Crisis Management:

  • Respond to patients in crisis situations, offering de-escalation techniques and ensuring the safety of both the patients and staff.
  • Observe and report any signs of acute mental health issues, potential self-harm, or other risks.
  • Help maintain a secure and safe environment, especially in correctional settings.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical and behavioral observations.
  • Work closely with healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, to coordinate care.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, medical standards, and policies specific to the facility, particularly in correctional environments.
  • Monitor patients during daily activities, ensuring that treatment protocols are followed, and their well-being is maintained.
  • Assist in the management of medications, ensuring proper administration and documentation.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care.
  • Assist in treatment evaluations and case reviews for continuous improvement of care delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Some positions may require an associate degree or certification in psychiatric technology or a related field.
  • Licensure: Must have an active psychiatric technician license issued by the BON/DORA.
  • Experience: Prior experience working in a psychiatric or correctional facility is preferred but not always required.
