Job Summary

The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating all aspects of nursing care in accordance with the New York State Nursing Practice Act. The Critical Care Nurse provides comprehensive care to critically ill patients, supporting them in achieving optimal health outcomes through the nursing process. Care is delivered in collaboration with physicians, care providers, and the healthcare team to meet patient and family needs. This role includes providing services to ICU and/or telemetry patients aged 18 and older.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Patient Care
  • Deliver nursing care to all critical care and telemetry patients with medical or surgical diagnoses.
  • Rspond to Code Blue and medical alerts as assigned.
  • Assessment
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of the patient’s physical, behavioral, psychological, and social status.
  • Review patient history, medical records, and data from interdisciplinary team members.
  • Identify mobility or sensory deficits, review skin condition, and adjust the care plan accordingly.
  • Document psychosocial and environmental factors, education needs, and any relevant findings.
  • Communicate assessment outcomes to the interdisciplinary team.

Planning

  • Determine patient needs at admission based on medical and psychological symptoms.
  • Identify learning needs and patient education requirements.
  • Make referrals to other disciplines as appropriate and document thoroughly.

Intervention/Implementation

  • Provide hands-on clinical care including medication administration, symptom identification, and disease management.
  • Intervene appropriately during medical, surgical, or critical emergencies.
  • Utilize critical thinking and adhere to infection control standards.
  • Address psychosocial needs and provide health teaching to patients and families.
  • Ensure all procedures follow established standards of care and demonstrate competency in required skills.
  • Report unusual occurrences or incidents promptly.
  • Advocate for patient rights and safety at all times.
  • Evaluation
  • Colaborate with the healthcare team to update and revise the patient’s care plan based on outcomes and ongoing assessments.

Physical Demands

  • Requires standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, bending, and some repetitive motions.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be provided without compromising patient care.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Minimum 2 years of Critical Care nursing experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Education: Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Valid New York State RN License.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications.

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN).
  • Certifications & Licensure
